Today at 8 a.m. the HSLP arrived at UVA's ropes course for a day of fun, challenging team-building activities. After some "warm-up" games, the class was divided into three groups lead by ropes course volunteers Peter, Michael, and Gregg. Each group participated in a variety of difficult tasks, followed by discussion of the challenges, failures and successes they experienced during each task. The morning session was overall a very positive experience, giving students an opportunity to reflect on how they performed as part of a team, as well as to grow individually and become better leaders.
After lunch, we started our afternoon session at the ropes course. The highlight arrived at 2 p.m., when we started the main event: the high rope climbing exercise. Participants partnered up and had to rely on each other in order to successfully complete the daunting task. Once we completed the ropes course, we headed back to Bice House where we had dinner and finished up our reading for the first day of class tomorrow.
