Occupation: Deputy Treasurer, City of Suffolk

Favorite part about the job: Serving taxpayers by working to make government more effective, efficient, and streamlined.

Your first job ever: In high school, I had an after-school job doing maintenance work at a dry cleaner. I remember how hot it was in the back room that on the hottest day in August, I would go outside to cool down.

Favorite Book/Currently Reading: Favorite Book: It's actually a tie between The Shad Treatment, by Garrett Epps (required reading for anyone interested or involved in Virginia government and politics) and Sarge Reynolds: In The Time of His Life, by Michael P. Gleason and Andrew McCutcheon.

Currently Reading: 1. Jon Meacham's Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush 2. Jeffrey Toobin's The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court.

Comfort Food: (All of the) Pizza.

What’s playing in your car right now? “Jack and Diane”, John Mellencamp.

Addicted to podcasts? What are the top three you listen to? The only podcast I listen to is The West Wing Weekly.

Next journey? Staunton for Sorensen PLP!

Favorite Virginia destination? Driving through the Shenandoah Valley during the fall when the leaves are changing. Is there a more beautiful sight to be seen?

First political memory? The 1997 gubernatorial race between Jim Gilmore and Don Beyer, and all of the “NO CAR TAX!” signs.

Best advice you ever received? “Do it right the first time.” – My dad

If you could have dinner with anyone currently living, whom would it be and why? George HW Bush: war hero, devoted husband, dedicated father, successful businessman, intrepid public servant, and American patriot.

One thing most people would be surprised to learn about you? I went to Boys State one summer in high school and earned a certificate in parliamentary procedure.

Ambition, political or otherwise? To be elected Suffolk City Treasurer.

Favorite part about the PLP so far? Meeting new people from different parts of the Commonwealth who add great insight to the learning process as we travel to all the regions in Virginia. The friendships made, and the places traveled to are wonderful!
